A DRUG-FUELLED woman stabbed and strangled a gran in front of her terrified toddler grandson after storming into her home in a ‘savage and frenzied’ attack.

Shereena Oghani, 29, launched the vile, 10-minute assault on the 56-year-old victim after knocking on the door of her home in Moss Side and forcing her way inside.

High on drugs, she repeatedly punched the woman and stabbed her in the head.

Oghani pushed and kicked the 18-month-old boy out of the way during her attack on the woman – a complete stranger.

Afterwards, she washed the blood from her hands in a puddle on the street.

DNA evidence – including Oghani’s hearing aid, which was left at the scene – and CCTV footage helped detectives identify her. She fled to London following the attack, where she was arrested.

Oghani, from Stretford, has now been handed an extended jail sentence for public protection by a judge at Manchester Crown Court.

The judge said the horrific attack was the ‘stuff of nightmares.’

On November 13 last year, the victim was home alone with her grandson on Beresford Street at around 4.15pm when the defendant knocked on the front door. After answering, she was pushed back into her house and Oghani locked the door.

Prosecutor Mark Kellet said: “The defendant began by punching to the head at least three times.

“She then grabbed her by the head dragging her to the kitchen. She was continuously punching her. She was then searching for a knife. She got a knife and attempted to slash at the victim who tried to struggle free. She was trying to stab her.”

Oghani strangled her victim and dragged her to the sitting room before picking up a laptop – which she stole – and hitting her in the face with it. The victim lost consciousness and was stabbed in the back of the head.

Mr Kellet added: “She had multiple lacerations to the face and scalp and had bruising over her body. She spent six days recovering in hospital.

“The violence was witnessed by her grandson who was running around trying to help his grandmother. He was pushed and kicked out of the way by the defendant.”

Oghani had two knives on her, which were recovered from the scene. Both were bloodstained and one was bent in the ferocious attack. The victim managed to scream for help and her neighbours called the police.

Dan Gaskell, defending, said his client – who has seven previous convictions for 17 offences – had been ‘exploited by others.’

He said: “She has little or no recollection of the actual events. She had been given some blue pills and had little or no recollection after that. She was taken away from the area by an individual who was a controlling influence.” Sentencing, Judge Alan Conrad said the attack was ‘savage and sustained.’ He told Oghani: “You caused the victim serious physical and emotional harm. A small child was present and was struck during your frenzied violence. This attack is the stuff of nightmares for any house owner.”

Oghani, of Holly Bank Close, Stretford, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; robbery; common assault; and breach of a suspended sentence.

She was declared ‘dangerous’ as she was sentenced to 11 years in prison, with an extra four years to serve on licence as part of an extended sentence.
