SOLSKJAER: WE’RE NOT READY FOR CRACK AT THE TITLE

NOBODY ON PLANET BETTER THAN KEV, SAYS PEP

- By STUART BRENNAN

KEVIN De Bruyne is the best midfielder on the planet right now, according to City manager Pep Guardiola.

The Belgium star scored from the penalty spot, played an unselfish role in the second goal, and played a big role in the other two as the Blues hammered champions Liverpool 4-0.

De Bruyne notched up two assists to move within two of Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 in a season and made a powerful claim on the individual player awards by dominating Jurgen Klopp’s team.

And Guardiola has claimed he is ‘unique’ and expressed his belief that he is the best in the world in his position.

“He’s a really good player. He has something unique,” said the manager. “He can run, the vision that he has, the personality right now – being a penalty taker he has scored four in a row when we struggled a lot with penalties.

“So right now he is the best, yeah, in the midfield positions.”

But Guardiola is keen for De Bruyne, who turned 29 on Sunday, to keep on improving.

When asked if there is anything at which he can get better, Guardiola replied “Of course.”

And when asked to expand on what that is, the manager said simply: “He knows.”

Meanwhile, City’s fixture list is now complete after their final three matches of the season were confirmed last night.

Their home clash with Bournemouth will be on Wednesday, July 15, at 6pm.

Then, after the FA Cup semi-final with Arsenal on July 18, they face Watford away on July 21, again at 6pm.

And their Premier League season ends at home to Norwich on July 26 (4pm).
