Ole: Some of my players don’t deserve to miss out

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer concedes some of his United players are unfortunate to not be starting games.

The Reds have fielded the same XI in their last three Premier League games something which last happened in November 2006 - and have won all three by a three-goal margin.

The 5-2 victory over Bournemouth marked their first five-goal haul at Old Trafford since Boxing Day in 2011 and they have kept 12 clean sheets during their 16-match unbeaten streak.

Although United possibly have a settled XI for the rest of a season, which could end as late as August 21, Solskjaer admits it is a wrench to omit certain players.

“We have stated the same XI the three games,” said the Reds boss. “One is because of good form and two, they do create a nice unit and attacking threat.

“But we have got other players. It’s so difficult for me to leave Scott [McTominay] and Fred out the team and Brandon [Williams] and Dan James out. We’ve got players who deserve to play, but we will need everyone.

“We’ve got so many games coming up in a short space of time but [Greenwood, Rashford and Martial] have done fantastic.”

Fred started 23 consecutive league games until Paul Pogba was recalled for the visit of Sheffield United last month and McTominay was an ever-present in the team until he sustained a knee injury against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Williams lined up against City and LAK Linz before the lockdown and James has already started 26 times in his first season in the Premier League.
