Miss Manchester leaves catwalk for studio

-

THE Miss Manchester contest has headed from the catwalk to the recording studio this year.

For the first time in its 60-year history the annual contest is releasing a single featuring six finalists.

Diandra Bryce, Eva Selmanaj, Tamar Barratt, Saoirse Curran, Scarlett Dean and Nadia Bafekr showed off their singing talents, belting out ‘Stronger Together’ to raise funds for the charity One Woman at a Time.

The charity helps girls in Kenya escape female genital mutilation and forced marriages.

The powerful single fuses the voices of the Miss Manchester 2020 finalists, recorded at 6dB recording studio in Salford, and the choir from the Ortrum school in Pokot, Kenya.

Recorded during lockdown, Miss Manchester director Cheryl Broadfoot says the aim of the song, which is now available to download and stream, is to deliver a ‘message of unity in a world that seems divided.’

The musical project was put together by Miss Manchester and the label Dark Mic Music Group to help provide funding and awareness.

Jean Anderson, founder of One Woman at a Time, said: “I’m so proud of these girls for this record which unifies girls across two continents.”

The finals were due to be held on May 21 but they were called off due to the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown.
