Suspect, 39, arrested in Aya murder probe
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of student Aya Hachem.
Police said the 39-year-old man, from Bury, was detained on Thursday. He was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Lancashire Police said the man has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries after questioning.
Aya, 19, who was studying law at the University of Salford and had just sat her second year exams, died from a gunshot wound to the chest in Blackburn on Sunday, May 17. She was shopping close to the Lidl supermarket on King Street in the town at the time.
A 33-year-old man from Manchester meanwhile, who was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender, has also been released under investigation pending further enquiries, Lancashire Police said in a statement yesterday.
Police have made a total of 22 arrests in connection with Aya’s death.
Seven people have been charged with Aya’s murder and attempted murder.
