AGUERBLOW

...AND NOW INJURED BLUES STRIKER IS RULED OUT OF REAL MADRID SHOWDOWN

- By STUART BRENNAN

SERGIO Aguero will not be fit to face Real Madrid in the Champions League next month.

The City striker has been ruled out by manager Pep Guardiola, after having surgery on a knee meniscus problem he picked up in the 5-0 win over Burnley last month.

And the Argentina striker faces a race against time to play any further part in the competition, even if City do progress after the second leg of their last 16 game.

If City go through on August 7, the first game of the last-eight tournament will take place within a week, giving Aguero very little time to recover.

And the Blues could do with him after being given a nightmare draw in their bid to reach their first Champions League final.

If they get past Madrid, they could face Juventus then either

Barcelona or Bayern

Munich before a possible showdown with Paris St Germain in the final! Meanwhile, City will learn whether their appeal against a two-year Champions League ban has been successful at 9.30am on Monday. The Blues were sanctioned by

UEFA’s club financial control body (CFCB) in February for breaches of club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

City have always vigorously denied any wrongdoing and their appeal against the punishment was heard over three days by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) last month.
