Pregnant women are now turning to the internet before their own mum for advice

-

‘HAVE you got any baby name ideas?’ is the most common question women asked during pregnancy, followed by ‘how big is the baby?’.

A survey of 2,000 mums revealed ‘where can you buy maternity clothes?’, and ‘how much weight should you put on during pregnancy?’ to be among the other top queries.

And while mums-to-be have traditionally turned to their own mother for advice, 78% of those interviewed said that the internet is now their first port of call for help.

Common searches for mums-tobe include ‘what vitamins and minerals are important to consume during pregnancy?’, ‘how long does morning sickness last?’ and ‘how much folic acid do you need?’

The study, commissioned by Vitabiotics Pregnacare vitamins, also found the typical mum-to-be will ask four different questions every day while they’re expecting – more than 1,000 in total.

But worryingly, 78% said they have received conflicting answers, with 15% saying the advice was ‘extremely different’.

It also emerged that those polled trust their midwife the most for pregnancy information (51%), followed by their mum (34%), and doctors or other health professionals (33%).

The study also found 63% of women said they found pregnancy to be a worrying and confusing time.

consume, was one of the most confusing parts of pregnancy.

Searching the internet was the most common way to ask a specific question (67%), along with asking a midwife (59%), speaking to their own mum (48%) or friends (46%).

More than two thirds of the women polled, via OnePoll, even went as far as to say the internet was their lifeline when they were pregnant, as it allowed them to ask the questions they were too embarrassed to ask people in real life.

Pregnacare has created a quiz where you can test your knowledge of some of the most commonly asked questions during pregnancy.
