TEENAGER DIESAFTER STABBING IN STREET
17-YEAR-OLD DEAD, THREE OTHERS INJURED AS YOUTHS CLASH IN SOUTH MANCHESTER
A BOY of 17 died and three others were hurt in a horrific stabbing spree during a clash between two rival groups of youths in south Manchester.
The teenager suffered fatal injuries during the clash on Henbury Street, a residential road between Rusholme and Moss Side.
The emergency services, including the police helicopter, descended on the scene following the first reports of a stabbing at 7.30pm last night.
The 17-year-old boy had suffered a fatal stab injury and died at the scene.
Three others were taken to hospital with stab injuries although their conditions are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police have launched a murder investigation.
A boy of 17 was arrested at the scene - he remains in custody and will be questioned by detectives in connection with the death.
Police cordoned off a large area around Lloyd Street South.
Launching a public appeal for information about the incident, police described a ‘dreadful incident’ and asked for witness or anyone with footage to come forward.
Superintendent Leon Jacobs, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This is a dreadful incident and we are working hard to establish how this boy came to lose his life.
“Our specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family and our thoughts are with them as they struggle to come to terms with their loss.
“We also wish those in hospital a speedy recovery.
“While our investigations are in their infancy, we have already made one arrest.
“This is a fast-paced enquiry and it is vital we secure any information that the public possess in relation to this.
