Pally claims Harry’s game has been solid in first season

- By DOMINIC BOOTH

GARY Pallister has lauded United captain Harry Maguire for a solid debut season at Old Trafford.

Maguire has recently become the first United outfield to play every minute of a Premier League campaign since Pallister himself achieved the feat in the 1994/95 campaign, when Blackburn pipped Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to the title.

After signing for £80million from Leicester City, the 27-yearold has come in for criticism in some circles, but former United centre-back Pallister has nothing but praise for both Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence shone in the second half of the campaign, conceding 36 goals in the 38 games that Maguire featured in, helping their ascent up the table to finish in third place.

“I think he’s terrific,”Pallister told MUTV when asked about Maguire. “I think he’s rightly got the captaincy, he’s one of the talkers.

“He’s not the type of leader that Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce and Roy Keane were, but I think he’s got an assurance about him that the players respond to.

“I think, for his first season, he’s been terrific. He’s comfortable on the ball, you saw it on Sunday [in the 2-0 win at Leicester], getting his head to things when the balls are chucked into the box.

“He’s dominant there and he’s exactly the type of centre-back that United needed.

“Lindelof has had a really good season as well. He’s not as dominant as Harry, but I think he’s complemented him.”
