The road to a brighter future
END IN SIGHT FOR RESIDENTS PLAGUED BY POTHOLE HELL
A ROAD is set to be resurfaced after residents complained that HGVs going over potholes made their houses shake.
Pilkington Road, in Kearsley, Bolton, has been plagued with potholes for years and people living in the street claim it is one of the worst in the borough.
In February, Phillip Cheetham, 41, told the M.E.N. cracks had started to emerge in his walls and ceilings because of the impact.
He said: “The house shakes every times lorries go past. They’re at it at 4am in the morning, it’s constant.”
A crack had also appeared in the bedroom ceiling of neighbour Job Tonge who bought his home on the street last year. He added: “You shake in bed whenever a wagon goes past. It feels like an earthquake. I’m worried that it is going to cause even more damage to my home.”
Bolton council has now informed residents that the road will be closed for two weeks next month, to allow for resurfacing.
Coun Paul Heslop said: “Residents have been suffering for years with their houses shuddering.
“I’m sure it’s no doubt a huge relief for people living in the road and those residents living just off it. It really was appalling.”
Pilkington Road, which is close to the M61, is regularly used as a cut-through for traffic from Bolton Road to the Lyon Road Industrial Estate. It is one of around 200 streets on a repair wish list released by the authority last year, with each of the borough’s 20 council wards receiving an equal share of a £10m pot to fix potholes and pavements. Resurfacing works have also begun on Church Road and Presto Street in Kearsley, as well as Church Street in Farnworth.
