Swinton get Green light for new signing

- By TOM BRAMWELL

SWINTON have added half-back Cobi Green to the squad for the 2021 Betfred Championship campaign.

Stuart Littler has also moved quickly to tie former Oldham and Rochdale winger Richard Lepori down to a new deal.

Green joins from Bradford Bulls and represented Wales at last year’s World Cup Nines tournament in Sydney. He featured alongside Lions captain Rhodri Lloyd and winger

Mike Butt, and will be seeking to cement a spot in John Kear’s squad for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

“Cobi certainly held his own out in Australia and is an exciting halfback who is keen to take on the line and promote space for others,” said Littler.

“He has a very high skill set and I am really excited to get the opportunity to work with him.”

As well as adding new talent with international experience, Littler was delighted to secure Lepori’s services for 2021. The 28-year-old is an Italy representative and after featuring at the 2017 World Cup, will be looking to retain his spot at next year’s tournament.

“Richard has really bought into our culture,” added Littler. “He drives his own standards and our team’s social capital upwards with his positivity.”

Meanwhile, Rochdale have re-signed two key members of Matt Calland’s squad for next season.

The coach’s younger brother Ben has agreed a new one-year deal at the club, having joined from Oldham Roughyeds ahead of the curtailed 2020 campaign.

“I really enjoyed the short period of time we had together as a group this season,” said Ben, who scored four times in four appearances for Hornets.

“The squad that is being built for 2021 is really impressive and it’s exciting to be a part of a team that will push hard for promotion.”

Prop forward Luke Fowden has also re-signed.

He initially played for the club in 2016, joining from local amateur side Rochdale Mayfield, and re-joined for 2020.
