United flop Sanchez is named on Inter’s Euro squad list

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

INTER Milan have named Alexis Sanchez in their Europa League squad for the knockout stage.

The M.E.N. reported last week Inter were confident of signing Sanchez, 31, permanently from United in a deal early on in the summer transfer window.

Inter have kept Sanchez in their squad for the resumption of their campaign, which starts with the round-of-16 second leg visit of Getafe tomorrow.

United and Inter were kept apart in the draw and could face each other in the final in Cologne on August 21. Inter’s squad also includes former United players Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young, as well as Premier League imports Christian Eriksen and Victor Moses.

Sanchez, 31, found form after the season restarted in Italy, scoring three goals and creating another seven, having previously managed one goal in nine Serie A games. Sanchez was sidelined for three months of the campaign with a knee injury.

The Chile international completed 90 minutes in a club game for the first time in 22 months against Brescia last month and Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta confirmed the club was receptive to signing Sanchez.

United did not include an option to buy for a fixed fee in the loan agreement for Sanchez in case his re-sale value increased. Sanchez is contracted to United until 2022 and the M.E.N. revealed in February the club had started looking for potential buyers.

Inter are paying 75 per cent of Sanchez’s £400,000 weekly net wages.

Senior United sources have confirmed Solskjaer wanted rid of Sanchez last year.
