Keep cool and avoid lockdown fine, urges policechief

-

A SENIOR police inspector has appealed to the public to obey lockdown restrictions this weekend.

Insp Katie Allen, of Greater Manchester Police’s Salford district, issued the plea as the warm weather looks set to continue across the region.

She urged people not to get carried away - and risk being hit with a fine despite the rise in temperatures.

Under new legislation designed to allow police to enforce local lockdown rules in Greater Manchester, people can now be fined £100 for meeting other households in homes or gardens.

Posting from GMP’s Little Hulton, Walkden, Ellenbrook & Worsley Facebook page on Saturday morning, Inspector Allen said: “Good Morning Everyone,

“What a beautiful day we have today, makes having our summer holidays getting cancelled all that more bearable when we have such lovely weather.

“However you choose to enjoy it today, please remember we are now in a local lockdown, which has been made enforceable.

“I am on afternoons today and tomorrow and REALLY don’t want to spend my time fining the good folk of my community for simply not following lockdown rules.

“Enjoy the sun, have fun, wear your suncream and hat and PLEASE, stick to the lockdown rules. Whether you agree or not, we all have to be in this together.

“Not only are we police officers, we’re humans too, and are in this with you.

“It impacts on us just as much as it does you, and we have to work together to get through it, so this is a polite request from me to you.”
