A FATHER-of-one has created an app aimed at helping young people challenge, navigate and disarm racism after a conversation with his son.

Dominic Bruce, 49, will be launching the MUSA app in September through his company Wisdom Against Racism and it will provide access to an extensive database of empowering and informative videos, downloadable activity sheets with quizzes.

The app aims to help young people as well as parents understand the intricacies of diversity and inequality and will feature videos exploring historical information, debates, political analysis, interviews, documentaries and much more.

Entrepreneur Dominic, from Chorlton, decided to create the app after a conversation with his mixed-race son.

Speaking to the M.E.N. he said: “The app has been a year in the making. It came about because I’ve got a nine-year-old son and he started asking strange questions.

“He asked me if he was white, and I was surprised, I always considered us to be quite self-aware, he’s got black friends and his granddad’s black.

“So I decided I’m going to educate him about black history, but what were his options? I’ve got a background in multimedia so I thought if I put these things on a phone for him and other kids it would work.”

Dominic also hopes that MUSA will serve as a resource for schools and will feature online analysis of a pupil’s behaviour, time spent on the content and quiz scores, among other things. In partnership with Mosquito Digital to produce MUSA, Wisdom Against Racism is empowering the next generation to understand the matrix of British society and strategically navigate the challenges that racism presents. Dominic hopes MUSA becomes an authentic, relevant and trusted onestop-shop specifically designed to fill the space that has been left out in primary and secondary education. Dominic continued: “We have an obligation to ensure racism and unconscious bias does not pollute the next generation as it has previously. MUSA is an essential asset towards achieving that goal.”

MUSA will be available across a number of devices and will be be available to distributed to individuals, schools, colleges, universities, youth referral centres, prisons and other institutions.
