KDB shortlisted for Premier League honour

- By DANIEL MURPHY

KEVIN de Bruyne is on the shortlist for Premier League Player of the Season.

It has been an underwhelming domestic campaign for City as they lost their grip of dominance on the league and lost the title by 18 points to Liverpool.

Despite the disappointment, De Bruyne has enjoyed a fantastic season and has been nominated for the Player of the Season award. The brilliant Belgian has been in sensational form and has played like a man looking to make up for lost time after spending much of the previous year on the sidelines.

He finished the season with 20 assists, equaling Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s long-standing assist record, as well as 13 goals.

De Bruyne will be one of the favourites to win the accolade but he will face some stiff competition, namely from Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson.

Golden boot winner Jamie Vardy and Southampton striker Danny Ings made the cut after remarkable goalscoring returns and Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope also got some recognition after his fine displays between the sticks.

Supporters have until 10am on Sunday, August 16, to place their votes on who should win the award.

The nominees for the Young Player of the Season award have also been announced but there was no place on the list for City’s talented young duo of Phil Foden and Eric Garcia.

Alexander-Arnold, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, keeper Dean Henderson, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic are up for the award.
