Maxwell set for return to Manchester with Aussie ODI squad
GLENN Maxwell will be back at Emirates Old Trafford after being named in the Australia squad for their limited overs tour of England.
The tourists will play three one-day internationals at the ground on September 11, 13 and 16 following a three-match T20 series at the Ageas Bowl.
Maxwell was due to return to Lancashire this season as an overseas player in the Vitality Blast after an impressive season with the county last year. However, his contract was cancelled by mutual agreement following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, but the Red Rose haven’t ruled out bringing him back next season.
Cricket Australia’s board gave its final approval to the planned tour last week and the Australian government has now granted exemptions for outbound travel for the squad.
It will be the first international tour undertaken by an Australian national sporting team since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Australia will leave from Perth on August 23 and travel to Derby. They are scheduled to play four practice matches three Twenty20s and one 50-over game - before the start of the T20 series with England.
ECB chief executive officer Tom Harrison said: “We owe a significant debt of gratitude to the players, staff and administrators of Cricket Australia for their efforts in getting this tour underway.
“Their co-operation to ensure these matches are staged is crucial to cricket in this country.
“It will also provide muchneeded financial aid at all levels of cricket in England and Wales as we work through the challenges in front of us.”
