FERNANDES: Winning the Europa League can make us title contenders
Bruno tops Player of Year poll of our readers
UNITED fans have named Bruno Fernandes as their Player of the Year.
The midfielder completed his long-awaited move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window and it is no coincidence the Reds’ form has improved as a result.
The Portuguese was a crucial part of the team that secured a third-placed finish in the Premier League, with Fernandes yet to suffer a league defeat while in the side since joining the club.
He tops the Europa League scoring charts after netting a crucial penalty in the quarterfinal win against FC Copenhagen on Monday.
M.E.N. Sport asked readers to vote for their Player of the Year and the 25-year-old came out on top.
Fernandes received 3,872 (40 per cent) of the 9,683 votes to be crowned M.E.N. Sport readers’ Player of the Year.
Anthony Martial finished second after his excellent season as the club’s firstchoice striker. The Frenchman is enjoying his most prolific campaign in a United shirt and leads the club’s scoring charts on 23 goals. He received 2,100 votes (21.7 per cent).
Summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka rounded off the top three, receiving 1,275 votes (13.2 per cent).
Behind the full-back, Mason Greenwood came fourth with 1,232 votes (12.7 per cent) and Marcus Rashford fifth with 1,203 votes (12.4 per cent).
United can still end the season with a trophy and face Sevilla tomorrow in the Europa League semi-final. They will face either Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk in the final if they beat the La Liga side.
