Belle Vue set for speedway return with youth event

- By HAYLEY BROMLEY

SPEEDWAY is set to return to Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium with Round three of the British Youth Championships later this month.

The event on August 27 is subject to pending approval by Manchester council and the board of BSP Ltd, however the club is confident that we will receive the go-ahead from all concerned.

Belle Vue CEO Adrian Smith said: “Along with Manchester council and GLL, everybody at the club has been working hard to ensure the stadium is fully Covid-19 compliant.

“We are delighted to be in a position to facilitate Speedway meetings this year, and to ensure the retention of our status as the longest continually operating Speedway club in the world.

“Our thanks especially go to Manchester council and GLL who have been as enthusiastic about the return of Speedway to the National Speedway Stadium in 2020 as we have.

“We are very excited to be able to welcome the British stars of tomorrow for our first meeting of the season and we hope it will be very well supported by the fans.

“We are also continuing to work towards other events at Belle Vue Speedway in 2020 and more information will follow with regards to these as soon as possible.”

Belle Vue Director of Speedway Mark Lemon added: “Belle Vue has always proudly nurtured young talent and hosting the British Youth Championships is no exception to the rule.

“This meeting is highly anticipated at the National Speedway Stadium; especially given the limited number of events we are able to stage this season.

“Our track provides a unique challenge to these aspiring young riders and we’ve had nothing but positive feedback from previous meetings, and we fully expect that to continue.”

Following successful approval, Belle Vue Speedway will make a further announcement regarding ticket sales for this event next week
