‘We’re just lucky to be here... it was crazy’
BINGO PLAYERS TELL OF TERRIFYING CAR CRASH AS THEY TRAVELLED HOME
A WOMAN has spoken about the terrifying moment a car she was travelling in was hit by another vehicle.
Hayley Crennell, 35, was returning from a night out at bingo with her partner Joanna Ward, Joanna’s mum Michelle and their friend Bernadette when a BMW smashed into Bernadette’s Nissan Micra.
All four had to be taken to hospital after being injured in the smash, which happened off Bury New Road in Salford on Saturday night.
Between them they sustained a number of injuries, including whiplash, severe bruising and cuts, but have since been able to go home after undergoing a series of tests.
Hayley, from Lower Broughton, says they have all been shaken by the incident, and says Bernadette doesn’t want to drive any more because of what happened.
She says she was told by witnesses at the scene who came to help them that the driver of the BMW overtook another vehicle and ran a red light before ploughing into them, although this has not been confirmed by GMP.
She also said she believes that six people were riding in the BMW, though police have not yet confirmed any details about the occupants.
The women have shared photos of the aftermath of the incident with the
M.E.N., showing both vehicles badly damaged.
Hayley said: “I don’t want to get in another car and I’ve been getting flashbacks. We are really shaken up and in a lot of pain.”
Hayley’s partner Joanna said she lost consciousness for a minute before getting out of the car.
She said she believes they could have all died in the smash.
“We’re just lucky to be here”, Joanna said.
“We’ll be all right in a couple of days but it’s just the shock. We’ve been shaken up, it was crazy.”
