Suburb plan to protect cyclists and pedestrian­s

CLIMATE ACTION PROJECT WILL ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO LIVE ‘HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVES’ WHILE ‘PROTECTING THE PLANET’

SAFER streets and greener school runs could play a key role in the future of Chorlton as part of a new initiative.

The Chorlton Climate Action Partnershi­p, led by WalkRideGM in partnershi­p with Groundwork Greater Manchester, has announced it will soon begin work on three projects focusing on people-powered transport.

Alongside road improvemen­ts, the projects will also focus on bringing more shoppers to the local high street while also creating a safer and greener school run.

The work was given the goahead after receiving more than £200k from The National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund.

It will complement the Chorlton Cycleway which is due to be completed next year and will link the area to the city centre via a 3.4 mile route.

Claire Stock, cofounder of WalkRideGM and Chorlton resident, said the project was more important than ever due to the pandemic.
