Defensive pair sign for Oldham

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

OLDHAM have announced the signings of defenders Jordan Barnett and Kyle Jameson.

The pair join Latics on initial six-month and one-year deals respectively after spending the last few weeks on trial during the club’s pre-season schedule and become Harry Kewell’s latest summer signings.

Barnett, 20, signs at Boundary Park after leaving Barnsley this summer and made a noticeable impact while on trial scoring the winner against Curzon Ashton in August. Predominantly a leftback, he has experience further forward as a winger, as well as in central midfield.

“It feels brilliant to be here and everybody has made me feel welcome,” he said after signing for the club yesterday.

“I’ve had a good few weeks with the lads and I’m looking forward to helping the team at the start of the season.”

Meanwhile, fellow new signing Jameson joins from

recently relegated National League North side AFC Fylde, where he featured 20 times last season.

The 21-year-old centre-back also has previous experience at youth level at both Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion and says he’s looking forward to his first taste of senior league football.

He said: “I’m really buzzing to be here and happy to get my future sorted now.

“I’m a defender that likes to play out from the back with the ball and I’ve had a good few weeks training. This is a really good opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the Football League, so I just can’t wait for the season to start.”

Oldham kick-off their 2020/21 campaign against Carlisle United in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.
