A YOUNG man is critically injured in hospital after a gang armed with machete-type knives stormed a pub, witnesses said.

The 20-year-old victim suffered multiple stab wounds during the shocking attack at the Queens Arms on Honey Street in Cheetham Hill.

Police said they were first called after the injured man was dropped off at hospital by two other men who left before talking to officers.

Detectives later established the victim had been assaulted on Honey Street and a large cordon was put in place. Forensic officers spent much of yesterday going in and out of the pub to assess evidence as several roads remained closed, including Red Bank.

Two witnesses described horrific scenes inside after the stabbing attack.

Both claimed six men were hurt, including the one critically injured.

“Some lads came in, all with machetes slashing six lads up,” one woman wrote on social media.

“There was blood everywhere, they were slashed to bits.”

Another witness said there was about “18 to 20” people inside the pub at the time when there was a “knife fight” involving two groups of men.

The witness also described six men as having been stabbed.

Greater Manchester Police were unable to confirm whether more than one person had been injured or reports of a gang storming in armed with machetes.

It is understood inquiries, including CCTV analysis, continue and further updates may be released in the coming days.

A GMP spokesperson said in a statement: “At around 1.15am this morning (Sunday 6 September 2020), police were called to reports that a man had been taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

“A 20-year-old man remains in a critical condition and is receiving treatment.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.”
