POLICE are investigating after the front door of a family home was blasted for the second time this year.

A gunman opened fire at the house in Salford in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A window has been boarded up and there is visible damage to the front door of the property on Murray Street, in Higher Broughton.

The incident sparked a large scale response from Greater Manchester Police, who raced to the scene just after 2.30am following reports that shots had been fired.

Officers found damage to the front of the house “consistent with a firearms discharge”.

Nobody was injured, GMP said. The attack comes just seven months after the same house was targeted during a similar incident on February 19.

A window was blasted with a shotgun at 9pm during an incident police at the time described as “a targeted attack”.

The shooting yesterday morning left many residents of Murray Street shaken as they watched police work to gather evidence from behind a large cordon.

The road is populated mostly by terraced houses, with a large care home situated at the bottom of the hill.

Firearms officers attended and a heavy police presence was in place for several hours.

One neighbour told the M.E.N. she heard a car pull up on the street at about 2.30am. “A young man covered in black got out. We heard someone shouting then two shots were fired and the car sped away.

“I called the police and they taped the street off all night.”

She added: “It’s the second time this has happened. There’s a lot of violence around here.”

David Huddlestone, who lives just a few doors down from the targeted house, described waking yesterday morning to discover the street had been taped off.

“This has happened before,” he said. “I thought we’d got rid of all this round here. It’s the last thing we need at the moment.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the two shootings took place at the same address.

Investigators are trying to ascertain if there are any links to the two incidents and say they are “keeping an open mind”.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is urged to get in touch with police on 101 quoting incident number 439 of 06/09/2020, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
