Garner to decide on Championship loan spell

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

UNITED’S James Garner is set to decide on which Championship club to join by the end of the week.

M.E.N. Sport understands the midfielder, 19, met with the Huddersfield coach Carlos Corberan prior to the Under-23s’ 3-3 draw against the Terriers just over a week ago but Blackburn and Milwall are also interested.

Newly-promoted Championship side Coventry have also considered taking Garner on loan.

Fellow Under-23 players Ethan Laird, Dishon Bernard, Dylan Levitt, Max Taylor and Arnau Puigmal could leave on loan before the transfer window closes on October 5, but Teden Mengi and Ethan Galbraith are expected to stay.

Garner made his United debut in February 2019 and started three times last season - all of them in the Europa League group stage. Competition in the United midfield has intensified with the arrival of Donny van de Beek, though Garner was always due to go out on loan for the upcoming season.

Garner, Mengi and Galbraith were all included in the United Europa League squad for the latter stages in Cologne but failed to make an appearance against Copenhagen or

Sevilla. Laird, Bernard, Levitt and Galbraith debuted for United last November at Astana and Taylor, Puigmal and Mengi were unused substitutes.

Levitt, 19, attained his first Wales cap in the win over Finland last week.

United have already signed off loans for goalkeepers Joel Pereira and Matej Kovar, as well as Dutch winger Tahith Chong.
