Kewell: It’s time we started our season

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

OLDHAM head coach Harry Kewell has called for his side to ‘start their campaign now’ with a win against Crawley Town today.

Latics are back at Boundary Park for the second time this week following their 4-0 win over Wolves Under-21s in the EFL Trophy and will be hoping for more of the same as they return to league action looking to improve on their opening two defeats.

“We have to remember it’s still a new team, the ideas that I’m getting across they are getting it but it will take time,” said the Latics boss.

“It’s a simple game, we just sometimes make it difficult for ourselves. As long as they (the squad) understand how we’re approaching the game, then I’m sure we’ll be fine.”

Today’s opponents are no strangers to the Australian, who managed them during the 2017/18 season. They come into the game having secured their first points last weekend with a 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

And despite preparing to face one of his former clubs, Kewell stressed the way he approached his pre-match preparations was no different to that of any other game so far this season.

“I know what they’re capable of doing, they’ve adjusted to what the new manager wants and playing well,” he added.

“I look forward to every game, I treat every game with the utmost respect because I believe every team deserves that. It’s going to be no different this weekend considering that they were my old team, I wish them all the best but it’s a game that we need to start our campaign now.”
