Redevelopment of former factory location Plans for Kellogg’s site revamp get green light

Will bring 750 homes and a hotel to Trafford

HUGE plans for the regeneration of parts of Trafford have been approved.

The council’s planning committee gave the green light to proposals for 750 homes, a 100 bedroom hotel, a leisure centre, a primary school and offices on the former Kellogg’s factory site in Old Trafford.

The town hall is working with developers Bruntwood Works on the site as part of its Civic Quarter Masterplan for the Old Trafford and Stretford area – and bought the plot for £12m back in September 2017.

It’s expected the construction phase of the development, which will be known as Lumina Village, will create more than 2,000 jobs.

Plans, first submitted in February, also include a shared green space.

In January, Trafford council’s Civic Quarter Area Action Plan, which the former Kellogg’s site plans are part of, received the cabinet’s unanimous approval.

Coun Andrew Western, leader of Trafford council, said: “This exciting development on the iconic former Kellogg’s site will provide muchneeded quality housing, an excellent primary school, offices and a superb hotel.

“It will totally transform the area and create a fantastic place for people who live and work there.

“This development fully supports the council’s corporate priorities of creating quality and affordable housing and successful and thriving places.

“The scheme will also create thousands of jobs and benefit the borough to the tune of £18m and I am delighted that planning permission has been granted. We will of course continue to engage with local residents as the development takes shape in the future.

Andrea George, regional director of town centres at Bruntwood Works, said: “Lumina Village will be a mixed-use neighbourhood that combines the heritage and history of the area with the needs of the modern resident, worker, student and school pupil.

“We’re committed to supporting the wider ecosystem of the towns and cities we operate in - Lumina Village will future-proof the area with the highest-standard housing and education facilities surrounded by a thriving commercial offering, catering to the needs of every generation in the community.

“The project forms part of our wider strategy in the area working in partnership with Trafford council and we’ve been keen to hear the thoughts of Trafford residents every step of the way.

“That underpinned the success of this application and we’ll continue to engage with the community as the development of Lumina Village progresses to ensure its potential impact is as wide-reaching as possible.”
