Delap’s a safe bet to have a big part to play in City’s future

- Fred done

THE kids did Pep Guardiola proud – and now he’s got a bit of a selection problem.

He’s got to be absolutely chuffed to bits at the impact of his class of 2020 in the Carabao Cup third round triumph over Bournemouth on Thursday.

But it really is only a little problem for he’s sure to recall the big guns – the seasoned superstar professionals – for this afternoon’s clash with Leicester.

That’s not to say Guardiola won’t be looking to the Academy aces again later in the season.

Phil Foden, who is well on the road to redemption, particularly amongst the City faithful after his embarrassing Iceland antics with England made front page news.

But despite hitting the winner in the 2-1 win against the Cherries, Foden had to vie for the back page with the likely next kid on the conveyor belt, Liam Delap.

Seventeen year old Liam – son of Stoke legend Rory – notched an eye-catching g debut goal g at the Etihad … and afterwards wards Guardiola said something I’ve ve been thinking for some time.

The esteemed med coach said that Delap (right) offers something different to his established strikers Sergio gio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. Guardiola’s actual words were: “He’s the type of striker we don’t have, strong and good in the air.”

With talisman man Aguero now reaching g the veteran stage of his fantastic career we might have just seen a glimpse of his potential successor.

Betfred have the Blues 3/10 to pick up all three points against the Foxes, with Jesus and Sterling both 7/2 – and if you think Foden will carry on with his rich vein of goal scoring form he’s 15/2 with us to score first.

Emanuel Caires won an incredible football wager at Betfred.

The father-of-two from Peterborough bet £5 that both teams would score and correctly picked the winner of five matches last weekend – and that landed him £13,731 on Betfred’s Goals Galore Extra coupon.

As he was born in Portugal, Emanuel is a Benfica supporter – but since emigrating to England he’s become a fan of his local team The Posh.

It was L League One Peterboro Peterborough who came to his resc rescue, scoring two goals in inj injury time in their 2-1 win o over Fleetwood to ke keep his acca aliv alive.

“It’s not a lifechanging amount for some people, but I lost my job at a potato f factory at the start of lock lockdown so this couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Emanuel, who wagered his fiver at the Betfred shop n near his home.
