CRASH COURSE

Striker’s solo stunner shows he’s a fast learner, says Solskjaer

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer admits he had to admonish Marcus Rashford to get a reaction from the United forward in their win at Brighton.

Rashford’s form has drawn criticism from his own supporters since the Premier League restarted in June but he scored a stunning solo goal – his second of the week, and the 10,000th of United’s history – to put United 2-1 up at the Amex Stadium, after a Lewis Dunk owngoal had cancelled out Neal Maupay’s spot kick.

The hosts thought they’d earned a point through Solly March’s header in injury time –

only for

Bruno Fernandes to snatch a lastgasp winner with a penalty, awarded after the final whistle. Before Rashford registered his first Premier League goal of the campaign, Solskjaer noticed the United winger evaded a challenge in the firsthalf and was compelled to berate him from the stands.

“He was getting better and better,” Solskjaer said. “I had a little bit of a go at him halfway through the first-half for a tackle he evaded, but I think his reaction, his sharpness is getting better, he’s more direct.

“You can see his confidence is getting there. Great goal and great run - and great finish for the one that was disallowed as well. And I think Marcus will really kick on this season.

“We’re getting a little bit better but I think we need to admit sometimes you get away with one, and today we probably didn’t deserve more than one point.”

United are back at Brighton on Wednesday for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

“I wouldn’t mind, however we win in the cup,” Solskjaer said of another trek to the south coast.

“You just want to go through. We’re looking forward to Wednesday again.”
