Priti is guilty of prejudice
THE Home Secretary, charged with promoting cohesion and upholding anti-racist values, has herself made racist statements in a recent podcast.
Priti Patel referred to Travellers as “criminal and violent” and said “a police officer that was effectively murdered through a robbery that took place by a Traveller family”. Her comments not only pit ethnic groups against one another, but there is no evidence to support her claims that criminality or violence abounds within Traveller sites.
Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers are protected from race discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. Her comments could constitute hate speech as it brands an entire ethnic group as criminal and violent.
As Home Secretary and a senior government minister, she has a duty to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and encourage good relations between all groups.
As a Jew who lost family members murdered during the Holocaust, as did thousands of gypsies and other minority groups, I am appalled and ashamed that Priti Patel made these comments during a podcast for the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Son of Refugees, Manchester remember when pubs had licensing hours, out by 10:30 and that was a way of life not a short term measure due to a deadly virus.
Again when I went to university it wasn’t parties every night and trashing streets and houses, (check out Fallowfield on a Sunday morning, indeed any morning). No, we went to study, law medicine and the science, not to mention the classics.
Some of the courses available at university are nothing short of ludicrous, hardly worthy of a degree not even a drinking degree (2.2).
To be asked to tow the line is the least they can do they whinge about how it’s their future at risk, well hello grow up it’s not just your future it’s your lives you are putting at risk.
