United youngsters still looking for loan move Before deadline day

- By RICHARD FAY

UNITED could allow a further three youngsters to leave the club before the summer transfer deadline.

The Reds have already sanctioned the departures of five youth players this summer with many of them already playing regular football at their new clubs.

Tahith Chong is settling well at Werder Bremen, James Garner impressed at Watford over the weekend, while Dylan Levitt is at Charlton, Matej Kovar at Swindon and Aliou Traore with French side SM Caen.

M.E.N. Sport understand United are still open to as many as three more loan exits with defensive trio Ethan Laird, Di’Shon Bernard and Max Taylor all attracting interest.

Laird appears to be the least likely out of the trio to leave with the 19-year-old sidelined with a minor injury.

The young right-back featured twice for United at first-team level in the Europa League last season and is attracting plenty of interest from clubs in both the Championship and League One.

Bernard is another player attracting plenty of interest from the Football League with the young centre-back currently at a crossroads in his career. The 19-year-old made his senior debut for United in their Europa League defeat to Astana in November but is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s firstteam plans like Teden Mengi.

Fellow central defender Taylor is also likely to leave before the transfer deadline and is searching for a new loan move after an agreement with Macclesfield Town fell through.

The 20-year-old has senior squad

experience from his trip to Astana last year, and is confident of securing a move after an unsuccessful trial with MK Dons earlier in the summer.

United have made a conscious effort to loan out their most promising young players with the focus on securing vital experience in senior men’s football rather than staying with the reserve side.

Under-23s boss Neil Wood knows he faces a difficult challenge of keeping United competitive on their return to Premier League 2 Division One this season, but understands the club’s focus is on developing players in senior football rather than at junior level.

The international summer transfer window closes on Monday October 5, however, domestic deals between Premier League and EFL clubs can still be done until Friday, October 16.
