Ole suffers double injury blow

-

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed both Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani were substituted with injuries during the win against West Ham and will undergo scans.

Martial started on the left side of a front three with Cavani operating as the central striker flanked by Mason Greenwood on the right.

The Reds were behind at halftime following Tomas Soucek’s opener at the London Stadium and Solskjaer made a double change with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford replacing Cavani and Donny van de Beek.

Just minutes into the secondhalf, Martial was moving gingerly and was unable to continue, being replaced by Juan Mata.

Solskjaer confirmed that both forwards had suffered injuries which will be assessed ahead of a crucial Champions League encounter with RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

“We lost Anthony and Edinson,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“Hopefully they aren’t too bad but they couldn’t carry on today. There’s a game coming up on Tuesday but that’s probably going to be the season this year.

“There’s going to be some games that we have to do without players and I’m glad we’ve got the subs that we have. They’re not bad ones (injuries) hopefully. We’ll do scans and hopefully they’ll be available soon.”

United need one point to qualify for the last 16 and Leipzig were also in action yesterday, drawing 3-3 against s Bayern Munich.

Solskjaer believes the comeback win against West Ham will provide a momentum boost.

He added: “It’s a brilliant week.

“We’re looking forward to it. That’s a good start.”
