A THUG deliberately drove a van over a man before stabbing him.

The victim lost a leg in the horrific attack.

Christopher Foster ploughed into Stephen Davies – a friend of his ex-girlfriend – and pinned him against a wall with his Vauxhall Movano van.

As Mr Davies lay injured on the floor, Foster ignored his pleas for mercy and stabbed him with a knife.

The 34-year-old victim was left with a compound fracture to his lower leg, which later had to be amputated.

Foster, of Holt Street West, Ramsbottom, was jailed for 15 years at Preston Crown Court.

The sentence will consist of 11 years in prison and a four-year extended licence.

In a victim personal statement, Mr Davies revealed he had been left suffering from depression and nightmares, and still has phantom pains where his leg was amputated.

The incident happened at about 5am on May 20 in Snowden Avenue, Blackburn.

Foster was originally charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to Section 18 wounding.

He also admitted possession of a knife and dangerous driving.

A judge has also disqualified Foster from driving for 16 years.

Det Con Nicola Mason, of East Police, said: “This was a terrifying incident which resulted in a horrific injury and a man losing his leg.

“The use of violence was extreme with a large van and a knife being used to attack the victim who, after he had been struck by the vehicle, was lying on the floor and begging his assailant to stop, pleas which were ignored by Foster.

“I am pleased he has seen fit to admit his guilt and the sentence handed down today reflects the gravity of the offending.”
