Devils try their Luckley with Sam
SCOTLAND international Sam Luckley has joined Salford Red Devils on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old’s arrival follows last week’s capture of Joe Burgess.
Back-rower Luckley said: “I can’t wait for pre-season. Doing sessions with the quality of players here at Salford will help bring the best out of me.
“I’ve had insight into that with Scotland, seeing what the top players do and I’m looking forward to spending more time in that kind of environment.
“I’m going to work hard for my opportunities, and I know I need to be consistent throughout the year to put myself forward for a World Cup place.”
Luckley has been a key player for Newcastle Thunder in recent seasons and had been due to represent Ottawa Aces in 2021, before their deferral on entry into the league structure.
Salford head coach Richard Marshall said: “Sam is determined to take this opportunity with both hands. He is excited to make the step up and playing and training alongside our experienced players in the forwards will help him unlock more of his potential.”
Director of rugby and operations Ian Blease said: “We’re pleased to give Sam this opportunity, to prove he is capable of stepping up to the elite level.
“He has been a standout individual, while playing consistently in the lower divisions and earned an international call up as a result.
“Now he has set out to develop further and become a Super League player.
“This is the best environment for him to achieve that.”
