BERNARDO DELIGHTED STRIKER IS BACK IN ACTION...AND SCORING
BERNADO Silva says he is ‘ very happy’ to have Sergio Aguero back in the team after the striker made a goalscoring return from injury last night.
City brought their Champions League group stage campaign to a close in style as they comfortably defeated Marseille 3-0 at the Etihad.
Although the loss of both Eric Garcia and Ilkay Gundogan to injury will come as a blow, Pep Guardiola was finally able to call upon the services of Aguero again, who came on with 25 minutes remaining.
The Argentine has struggled with injuries throughout
2020 and had been restricted to just four appearances this season, but it didn’t take him long to get back among the goals.
The Blues were already ahead thanks to Ferran Torres’ opener when Nathan
Ake’s header was saved, but Aguero was the quickest to react to turn in the rebound.
Bernardo is delighted to see him back in the side and on the score sheet.
“Very happy! Everyone knows how important he is for us,” said the Blues midfielder. “He’s one of the best players that ever played for this club.
“He’s a goalscorer and he’s just a fantastic guy to have in the dressing room, for the atmosphere, for the vibe, so it’s good to have him back.”
The win gave City a record points to total in the group st stage. Bernardo, w who has played in ev every Blues match in the competition so far, is happy with th the start they have made and hopes th they can carry th the momentum o on into Saturday’s derby. He said: “We knew we already had the first position in the group, we had already qualified. But still it’s always very good to finish this group stage with a good win, 3-0 at home. We’re happy and now onto the next one.
“It’s a good start for us, we know it’s not enough, but it’s a very good start. Now we’re into the last 16, our goal is to do better than we did in the last three seasons and that’s what we’ll try to do for sure.
“I think it’s been already a few
games that we have been winning and when you win it’s always easy to go to the next game and win again, win again and win again. So to have these games in a row winning of course it’s very nice and we just wanted to keep going the momentum.
“We have a tough game on Saturday against Man United but we want to do well and keep winning.”
