CITY RATED

- BY SIMON BAJKOWSKI

ZACK STEFFEN

Made some important saves as the team slackened towards the end of the first half.

KYLE WALKER

Solid enough, with a stinging shot that tested the keeper and good game awareness when acting as last man.

ERIC GARCIA

A surprise starter, was fine until he went down unopposed midway through the first half and had to be substituted.

AYMERIC LAPORTE

No mistakes and his left foot was an asset for City moving out of defence. Not as impressive as Stones though.

NATHAN AKE

Looked vulnerable on a few occasions, but also showed defensive strength and a willingness to get forward.

FERNANDINHO

Much better from the veteran since returning from injury, enjoying the ability to break up play and dictate the tempo.

ILKAY GUNDOGAN

Another impressive showing, combining defensive poise with attacking threat. Hooked at half-time with derby in mind?

BERNARDO

City’s liveliest player, full of clever running. Recent signs are encouraging after an indifferent start to the season.

FERRAN TORRES

Scored opener yet wasn’t really able to trouble the defence. Aguero’s return should see him moved wide.

PHIL FODEN

A bright start faded before he looked more comfortable playing in central midfield in the second half.

RIYAD MAHREZ

Didn’t always make the best decisions but his commitment was total and his quality put the ball on a plate for Torres.

SUBSTITUTES

JOHN STONES: (Garcia, 28) Showed off his increased confidence by bringing the ball out of defence regularly and was also excellent in his own box. 8

RAHEEM STERLING: (Gundogan, 46) Took up a familiar position on the left wing for the second half. 6

SERGIO AGUERO: (Mahrez, 66): Didn’t touch the ball for ten minutes and then popped up with a tap-in. Great to see him back. 7

NOT USED: Carson, Dias, Mendy, Cancelo, Doyle, Palmer, Bernabe, Nmecha, De Bruyne, Jesus
