UNITED are currently assessing the success of their loan transfer decisions as they approach the January transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side agreed to loan out 11 players in the summer as United prioritised individual player development over their own needs at youth team level.

United were keen for their most promising players to make a breakthrough at senior level with meaningful minutes in the professional game, rather than potentially stagnating with another year at the crossroads of reserve football.

Despite making their best efforts to match players with appropriate loan clubs a number of the United youngsters have highlighted a level of concern with a lack of playing time in the first half of the season.

Wales international Dylan Levitt has played just three times in the league for Charlton Athletic since joining on a season-long loan in September, with his last appearance coming at right midfield on 24 October.

The 21-year-old is at risk of losing his place in Ryan Giggs’ squad for the European Championships next summer after a disappointing few months which has seen him fall down the pecking order at both club and international level.

M.E.N. Sport understand United do have the option to recall Levitt from his loan next month and could send the central midfielder to another Football League club or even keep him in their U23s side to help regain confidence.

Concerns over Tahith Chong’s spell with Werder Bremen have been eased in recent weeks with the Dutch winger featuring in all but one of their Bundesliga matches this season.

The 21-yearold has only started three times in the league this season, but did play the entirety of the match last weekend as Bremen lost at home to VfB Stuttgart.

Diogo Dalot has played just 19 minutes of football for AC Milan in Serie A this season but has encouraged with his level of performance in the Europa League.

The Portuguese full-back scored and grabbed an assist in the victory over Sparta Prague back in October and has played every available minute in Europe since for his club.

Sadly the same can not be said for compatriot Joel Pereira who has experienced a torrid time during his season-long loan with Huddersfield.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has made just one appearance for his new side this season, conceding four goals as they lost 4-3 to Stoke City.

There have been success stories elsewhere though. James Garner, 19, has made 15 appearances for Watford this season, playing a key role in their strong start to the Championship season.

Di’Shon Bernard has settled strongly into life at Salford City although his loan spell at the club is due to expire next month.
