Edge of the precipice

-

BORIS Johnson swept the Conservatives to power at the General Election on December 12, 2019 and a few days later got his ‘Brexit Withdrawal Bill’ through Parliament on the promise that he had “an oven ready Brexit deal”.

Well I hope he doesn’t invite me for Christmas dinner! I can imagine arriving at No.10 only to look through the window to see a plump turkey running around the Rose garden... with the expectation that I catch it, kill it, pluck it, remove its innards then needing to make some stuffing because the PM has used all the stuffing he had on the British people... eventually putting the bird in the oven only to find there has been a gas leak and the cooker cannot be turned on.

Obviously there never was “an oven ready deal” unless he got his own way and the EU conceded to all his demands and dropped their own!

The Prime Minister is being marched, not too reluctantly I may add, to the edge of the “no deal” precipice with the ERG (European Research Group of Tory Eurosceptics) dagger prompting him from behind. A “no deal” would be catastrophic and economic madness for this country yet the British people are being held to ransom by a group of extreme politicians who have always hated our relationship with Europe, are obsessed with getting back ‘Little Britain’ and satisfying their own political agenda.

Johnson is only too aware that if he doesn’t do ERG’s bidding it will herald the ‘death knell’ to his premiership.
