MARVELLOUS REVEALS

AS awful as this year has been for film lovers, it’s given Marvel fans a breather from the relentless onslaught of movies.

The much-needed pause made it easier to get excited about the next glut of Marvel film and TV shows – Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – that were revealed during Disney’s Investor Day presentation last week.

Among the big announcements were first looks at Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and WandaVison, which all arrive in Disney + next year.

There were cast reveals for Thor: Love and Thunder, which sees Christian Bale, right, join as the villian, Gorr the God Butcher, and Spider-Man 3, which saw a huge number of stars announced, including the return of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock (from 2004’s Spider-Man 2) and Jamie Foxx’s Electro (from 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

Joining Molina and Foxx will be previous Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire, and there are strong rumours that Charlie Cox – star of Netflix’s Daredevil series – will also be onboard. Does this all finally point towards a multi-verse storyline for Peter Parker’s next outing?

Moon Knight fans will finally get to see the complex vigilante on the small screen.

Fans also got a first look at Ms Marvel, who will be played by newcomer Iman Vellani, while there will also be a Guardians of the Galaxy ‘holiday special’.

It was also revealed that the role of T’Challa, the king of Wakanda will not be recast after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman earlier this year.

Instead, director Ryan Coogler has been charged with bringing Black Panther II to the screen, minus the much-loved character.

The announcements bring us right up to 2022, with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 currently slated as the last release of Phase 4.
