OPENING THE BOOK AGAIN
SMASH HIT MUSICAL IS RETURNING TO THE PALACE NEXT YEAR
SMASH hit musical The Book of Mormon has announced a return to Manchester next year. The Tony Awardwinning show enjoyed a sold-out stint at the Palace Theatre in summer last year, adding extra dates several times due to high demand.
It has now confirmed a new run of dates for the city in December 2021 through to January 2022.
The comedy musical, written by the creators of South Park, received rave reviews across the board during its 2019 run.
Our reviewer described it as ‘wickedly funny, risque and inappropriate, but also sassy and sweet’.
Its string of dates here last year were the first performed in the UK outside of London.
In the capital, the Book of Mormon has sold out every date of its residency at the Prince of Wales theatre.
Written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, together with Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez, the story follows two missionaries sent from their home in Salt Lake City to preach the Mormon religion to a remote Ugandan village.
The two young men find a notable lack of interest from the villagers, who have bigger things to deal with - such as famine, AIDS, and warfare.
It debuted in 2011 and immediately won itself a flurry of Tony Awards, which recognises excellence in live Broadway theatre, including best musical, best original score, and best direction.
The London production has also gathered up a hefty number of accolades, winning four Laurence Olivier awards.
It’s been labelled “the funniest musical ever” by Vogue magazine and “tuneful and very funny” by the New York Post.
The Book of Mormon will return to the Palace Theatre between December 7 2021 and January 2 2022. Tickets are on sale now at ATG Tickets.
