FIRST came fashion’s answer to the hiking boot. Then it was all about thick-soled ‘dad’ trainers.
Just when we thought the chunky footwear trend couldn’t get any bigger – literally – Prada’s eye-popping mega-sized boots came stomping onto the scene.
The aptly named Monolith ankle boot, featuring a black lace-up upper and soles that look like they’ve been carved out of a tractor tyre, has taken the fashion world by storm, with celebrity fans including Bella Hadid, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Zoe Kravitz.
Rivalling the Monolith, fashionistas have also fallen head over heels for Bottega Veneta’s

Why the sudden craving g for boots of epic proportions? We think it’s a reaction to what could be termed ‘2020 syndrome’. In these trying times, we seek out comfy clothes for indoors (hence the loungewear boom) and a kind of armour when we venture outdoors.
Pulling on a pair of sturdy shoes makes us feel l like we’re prepared for anything, even though deep down inside, we’re terrified of what this year might throw at us next.
