TEENAGERS ARRESTED OVER ‘BID TO KILL’ BOY

‘LARGE KNIFE’ RECOVERED AND THREE 15-YEAR-OLDS QUIZZED AS STABBING VICTIM SERIOUSLY INJURED

POLICE recovered a ‘large knife’ after three teenagers were arrested over the attempted murder of a boy.

A 15-year-old boy remained in a serious condition in hospital after he was stabbed in the back near Alexandra Park in Moss Side.

Three teenagers, all 15, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the attack.

They remained in police custody for questionin­g.

Police were treating the stabbing as a targeted attack.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for anyone with informatio­n about the incident to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Denise Pye, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This is a very worrying incident where a teenage boy has suffered serious injuries, and an investigat­ion is underway to establish the circumstan­ces behind this attack.

“We’ve made three early arrests as part of our enquiries, but are very much keeping an open mind at this stage and are appealing to any witnesses or other members of the public with informatio­n to contact us, or Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y.

“I want to reassure the public that dedicated patrols have been put in place in response to this incident and there will be an increase in police visibility in the area at this time, and in the run-up to Christmas.”

Police were called to the stabbing near the entrance to Alexandra Park on Claremont Road shortly after 10.30pm on Saturday.

A knife was recovered and taken for forensic examinatio­n.

All entrances to the park were sealed off following the attack on Saturday night.

A police helicopter was seen hovering above the park with a floodlight for around 30 minutes.

Dog units assisted the search along with armed officers, witnesses said.
