CITY RATED

- BY SIMON BAJKOWSKI

EDERSON

Under regular pressure from the off, he was excellent with hands and feet for probably his most hard-earned clean sheet.

WALKER

Enjoyed the opportunity to hare forward, interchanging with Bernardo, and showed a cooler head than in the derby.

STONES

Gets better by the game. A commanding and confident performance to direct any danger away from his own box.

DIAS

This looks an excellent partnership with Stones, remaining unflustered and calmly moving the ball.

CANCELO

His side was targeted and Southampton regularly got in behind him, yet his recovery work was good enough.

RODRI

Overcame a difficult start to impose himself on the game. City have a better pace and rhythm when Rodri plays.

GUNDOGAN

Very busy, getting forward regularly. His execution of the final pass wasn’t quite there but positioning encouraging.

DE BRUYNE

Not everything came off but he remains the heartbeat of the team. An excellent run and cross for Sterling’s goal.

BERNARDO

Making his first start in the league since the Tottenham game, Bernardo was full of energy and good possession.

STERLING

Showed good awareness to peel off his defender as De Bruyne sent the ball into the box and finish first time.

TORRES

With Jesus absent, Torres started up front but was unable to find much space in behind. Helped to keep the attack fluid.

SUBSTITUTES

MAHREZ (FOR TORRES, 71): Offered something different to Torres. 6

NOT USED: Carson, Ake, Zinchenko, Mendy, Fernandinho, Nmecha, Aguero, Foden
