Gunman jailed after firing shots at home

-

A ‘DANGEROUS and reckless’ gunman who opened fire at a house was snared by DNA left at the scene.

Anthony Kirwan left ‘multiple bullet holes’ in a woman’s front door and windows during the incidents in September, 2018.

One bullet flew the entire length of the house in Bolton, before becoming embedded in the fridge in the kitchen.

Kirwan, 37, from Bury, has now been jailed for five years after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

At around 10.20pm on Thursday,

September 6, 2018, the victim woke up at her home on Eastwood Close.

She heard what she believed was ‘someone knocking loudly on her door’, police said. After rushing downstairs and opening the door, the woman discovered ‘numerous’ bullet holes in her living room window and front door. CCTV analysis showed a Citroen C1 Flair was driven onto Winterfield Drive, before entering Eastwood Close. The car headed to the end of the cul-de-sac, before turning around and heading back. Those inside the car - Kirwan and an unidentified man - parked up on a nearby street before making their way back to Eastwood Close on foot. They approached the victim’s house before a gun was fired. The two men then fled the scene. Enquiries later revealed a relative of Kirwan was insured on the vehicle captured on CCTV. Analysis of DNA recovered on one of the cartridges at the scene matched Kirwan’s, leading to his arrest and guilty pleas. Kirwan, of Oak Lane, Whitefield, was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court to five years - and an additional three years on licence.
