Stoney full of praise for United goal hero Heath

- By NICOLA KENTON

UNITED Women manager Casey Stoney was full of praise for Tobin Heath after her impressive two goals in their win over Bristol City.

The US international scored twice in the final ten minutes as the Reds maintain their unbeaten record in the WSL.

“Tobin’s goals were incredible, she came alive late on and good players do that,” Stoney said.

“She was out of the game then came to life with two different, but very, very good goals.

“We knew we would need to strike from distance as they played a low block of five.

“We knew we would have to fire from distance and go wide, and we did that exceptionally well and scored some outstanding goals.”

Heath wasn’t the only one to notch a stunning strike, as Leah Galton’s first was a left-footed shot from outside of the box.

Her second was similar, coming from the left-hand side and she powered it from the edge of the box over keeper Sophie Baggaley.

After 10 games, United sit top of the table and are four points clear of Arsenal heading into the Christmas break, but Stoney believes her side can still improve and was disappointed to concede.

She added: “It is nice to go in top at the break but we can only control what we can, and we did that by getting the points.

“We were outstanding, we played some good stuff and it was great to be in the stadium to see that.

“We moved the ball well, but I was disappointed with how we conceded.

“We could have been more clinical if I’m honest, but getting three points going into Christmas.”
