City fly into semi-finals as they thrash Gunners

BLUES BOSS ADMITS CITY STILL HAVE WORK TO DO

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

BLUES boss Pep Guardiola used the Manchester weather to suggest City’s goalscoring issues are not over.

The defending Carabao Cup champions put four past Arsenal to reach the semi-finals of the competition, with Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte all netting at the Emirates.

In a season where the team have struggled to put the ball in the net, scoring twice as many in these 90 minutes than they have in their last three matches combined, was seen by some as a positive.

However, the Blues boss pointed out the luck that was involved in the second and third goals and was keen to play down the idea that such a spree would see the end of their frustrations in front of goal this season.

And the City boss picked an analogy of the famous Manchester weather to make his point.

“It’s like in Manchester. It rains every day,” he started.

“When one day the sun rises it doesn’t mean the weather is going to change.

“It is just one game, we will see what w happens in the future. fu

“But we are happy to be in the semifinals fin again, four ye y years in a row.”

City were in control tr after taking an ea early lead, but a ch change in the A Arsenal formation fo forced them into a re rethink.

“We started the g game good, we st struggled when th they changed the s set-up,” admitted G Guardiola. “They started with five at the back and when they changed to four we struggled a little bit.

“Our play in the second half was much better and after the second and third goal in this kind of knockout games they are so important.”

THE Carabao Cup semi-final draw will be made after United’s quarter-final against Everton tonight, live on Sky Sports.

Unlike in previous years, the ties will be played over a single-leg due to the compact nature of this season.

Previous seasons have seen ties played over two legs. The team drawn out first will be at home. The games will be played in the week commencing January 4.

The final will take place on April 25.

It was originally scheduled for February 28 but was pushed back to later in the season in the hope that fans will be able to attend the game at Wembley Stadium.
