Couple’s terror as they wake to find burglar in bedroom

-

POLICE are hunting a burglar who broke into a couple’s home and stood at their bedroom door before being chased out.

The intruder struck at a home on Parsonage Road, in Heaton Moor, Stockport, at around 3.35am.

When the victim woke, he found a man standing at his bedroom door. He chased the burglar and found that he was in possession of a small kitchen knife, police say.

A short time later, the victim’s wife ran down the stairs and the couple pushed the intruder out of the front door.

The victim sustained minor arm, hand and leg injuries during the struggle.

At the time of the incident, the offender was wearing darkcoloured clothing and had his hood up.

Greater Manchester Police have now released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to.

Police believe the burglary might be linked to an earlier incident on Gibsons Road, during which a man smashed a window and tried to force his way into a property whilst holding a weapon described as a knife or screwdriver. No one was injured during that incident.

Det Con Kristy Hamlet, of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “Although no one was seriously injured in either of these incidents, they were frightening experiences for the families who live in the properties.

“No one should feel scared in their own home.”
