A MAN has been charged after a gas explosion at a house in Wythenshawe left a mum and her young daughter in hospital.

Police said Clinton Parren, 43, has been charged with causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

He’s due to appear in court today, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

Emergency services were called to a terraced property on Pewsey Road in Wythenshawe shortly before 12.20am on Wednesday.

A GMP spokesman said: “Emergency services attended and enquiries established a gas canister inside the property had caused an explosion, resulting in significant damage to the walls and windows within the property.

“Clinton Parren, 43, of Pewsey Road, Peel Hall, Wythenshawe, has been charged with causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

“He has been remanded in custody to appear before Manchester magistrates’ court on Friday, January 1.”

A 32-year-old woman and her two children were asleep upstairs at the time of the early hours explosion.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution, together with her 11-year-old daughter.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that both have since been discharged unhurt.

No other injuries were reported. The blast blew out the front and back windows and caused severe structural damage. A number of residents were evacuated while emergency services made the area safe.

Yesterday the house was boarded up and empty.

A fire service spokesman said five people were checked at the scene by paramedics. Crews were at the scene for around two hours.
