Bolton boss looking for ‘quick fix’ in January sales

- BOLTON WANDERERS

IAN Evatt believes the January transfer window is a ‘quick fix’ for Bolton Wanderers to help push the club into the League One promotion race after they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Crawley yesterday - leaving them 15th in League Two.

One deal which is close to getting over the line is that for former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee.

There is also speculation that Swansea City defender Declan John is a loan target for the Trotters.

With the likes of Eoin Doyle, Nathan Delfouneso, and Antoni Sarcevic in the squad, the Trotters squad does possess experienced players and individuals who have won promotion in the past.

But Evatt, pictured, feels more experience is needed as he pointed out that many in the squad, some of whom are young players getting their first season of football, lack game time in the EFL.

He said: “People look at Eoin Doyle, Nathan Delfouneso, Antoni Sarcevic, and think that Bolton are spending millions and millions, have experience all over the pitch.

“But if you actually look at the team and the make-up of the squad, we do have a lot of players who have not played in league football.

“Just because we are who we are, been where we have been, does not mean we are that club now.

“We keep saying it - we have to move on from the past and put a structure in place again.”

Despite yesterday’s result, Wanderers are only eight points from the play-offs in a congested table and Evatt believes the Trotters are in the race for promotion to League One.

He said: “If we put any sort of consistency together we’ll end up getting promoted. We’re still massively in this promotion race, no doubt about it. We have to improve the team and because behind the scenes we’re still working to get that recruitment structure in place, January becomes more of a quick fix.”
