pain, headache.

“It was difficult to deal with, especially in the first few days and then after day four or five I started feeling better and better, day by day.

Thankfully, I had the doctors and the club around so I wasn’t completely alone so every time I needed something our doctors were straight there and provided me with medication and kept asking me how I felt several times a day and if there was any improvement.

“Not just the physical pain but the psychological pain that comes with it, especially when you are alone. As I said, everyone was taking care of me and gave me a feeling that I was not alone. That gave me a good feeling and now I am good again.”

Gundogan explained how the disruption of Covid has impacted every side all season, affecting the schedule and health of players, providing sides with more obstacles to overcome.

He said: “Starting in the summer after having just a break of two weeks, then coming back with positive cases, me included, then the international break, which was made from two games to three games, having players injured because there isn’t really time to recover or have a proper pre-season, is all an addition and makes this season so difficult and different compared to the other ones.

“It is quite normal as a human being that we struggle. It is something I can accept quite well but the mindset is always to do as good as possible and try to continue to take care of yourself and your body and take responsibility for your own person and try to help the team as much as possible.”
