Teenager ‘stabbed to death in gang battle’
A TEENAGER was stabbed to death in Moss Side as part of a feud between the Rusholme Crips and AO gangs, a murder trial jury has been told.
Mohamoud Mohamed, 17, died following an incident in July.
Daneaco Reid, 19; Jamall Walters, 18; Romeo Daley, 18; and a 17-yearold boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, have gone on trial accused of murder, which they deny.
Jurors at Manchester Crown Court heard Mr Mohamed had been playing football with friends before he was fatally wounded.
He was stabbed in the chest, before being further attacked, after being pursued into an alleyway, the jury was told.
Prosecutors allege there is evidence that the four defendants are affiliated to the AO gang.
They said Mr Mohamed was associated with the rival Rusholme Crips gang.
Prosecuting, Simon Kealey QC said officers from GMP’s Xcalibre taskforce, which jurors were told works to tackle the activities of gangs, had spoken with ‘polite and respectful’ Mr Mohamed, but he ‘didn’t want to engage’.
Jurors were told an audio file containing lyrics referencing Mr Mohamed was found on Mr Reid’s phone, a file allegedly sent to him by the phone of the 17-year-old defendant two weeks prior to the incident.
“Let’s kill him, kill him,” the lyrics included.
“I will back my blade and drill him, drill him. Every day I am out for the killing, killing.”
Prosecutors told how the incident happened after 7pm on Sunday, July 26.
Mr Kealey said: “The prosecution case is that the four defendants came across Mr Mohamed then stabbed him in the chest, pursued him into an alleyway and attacked him again, where he collapsed and died.”
Prosecutors allege a stab wound to Mr Mohamed, which proved fatal, was inflicted by the 17-year-old defendant.
But they say all four of the accused are guilty of murder.
Mr Kealey said: “The motive and background to this killing was a gangland dispute. Mr Mohamed and the defendants having affiliations to rival urban gangs.”
Jurors were told the defendants were armed with a knife, machete and imitation handgun.
A woman who was nearby said she heard a ‘scuffle’ taking place, then some shouting including someone saying ‘f****** kill’ or ‘f****** kill him’, the court heard.
As she was on hold after calling the police, she heard an ‘agonising scream as if someone had been badly hurt’, jurors were told. Mr Mohamed, who also suffered a number of stab wounds to his face, collapsed in the alleyway and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.09pm.
The 17-yearold defendant suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital. Prosecutors said pictures were found showing each of the defendants wearing a ‘distinctive red bandana’ and ‘making the gang sign of AO’. Other lyrics also discovered made reference to ‘taking a knife to the opposition side’.
